DPL wanted a long overdue redesign of their DAMS (digital asset management system) site, which we also designed. DPL has an extensive collection of photos, brochures, and other excellent media representing American history with over one hundred thousand digital objects. Within the DPL Digital Collections, there are 5 Special Collections: the Burton Historical Collection, the National Automotive History Collection, the E. Azalia Hackley Collection of African Americans in the Performing Arts Collection, the Ernie Harwell Sports Collection, and the Rare Book Collection. In this redesign, we updated the look and feel of their site and also upgraded it from the legacy Islandora 7 to the current version of Islandora. The DPL DAMS site is based on LibraryDAMS but we added the following customizations to suit their needs:A better zoom viewer than the standard Islandora option A custom multi-image object viewer Ability for site visitors to mark images as “favorites” and store them for reference Image style management using Drupal instead of Islandora Inactive object management Batch import of existing record data from DPL’s old system, Hyperion Solr tuning for improved search resultsDPL continuously adds objects to their DAMS site. We have streamlined this process and have made it very easy for DPL to add, update, and maintain the site on their own with little to no help from Cherry Hill. It is our goal to train our clients to be able to maintain their sites but we are always here to help when needed.
