The Framework Advisory Board of ACRL wanted to create a web environment for the Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education, and chose the Cherry Hill Co. to develop the site which was launched Dec. 8, 2017. The Framework Sandbox is a platform and repository for sharing, organizing, and archiving classroom and professional development resources related to the use of the Framework for Information Literacy. These resource materials are created by those in the field, in formats including but not limited to concrete lesson plans and assessments, practitioner reflections, conference presentation slide decks, formal research studies, and theoretical critical analyses.
This material was previously scattered across the Internet in various listservs, Tweet streams, conference proceedings and other blogs and sites.
The Sandbox offers a Drupal-based content management system that will support the Framework?s wide audience of librarians, faculty and other educational partners by allowing the contribution and sharing of relevant content and as a repository and archive for the material.
The Framework Sandbox is based on another Cherry Hill Co collaborative portal site called Project Cora (http://www.projectcora.org/), an open access resource sharing platform for research assignments started with a grant from the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC).
The Sandbox supports the 6 broad lenses through which information in general education and disciplinary studies is viewed. Resources are added to the site and tagged according to one of the frames:
- Authority Is Constructed and Contextual
- Information Creation as a Process
- Information Has Value
- Research as Inquiry
- Scholarship as Conversation
- Searching as Strategic Exploration
- The Framework as a whole.
The Sandbox Team (Donna Witek, Susan Miller, and Sharon Mader) says, ?We are excited about the launch of the ACRL Framework Sandbox. We feel the Sandbox will be a place of discovery and sharing that will provide opportunities for collaboration and innovation in approaches to the Framework, both in the classroom and in terms of professional development. The powerful searching and retrieval of resources, made possible by the excellent design team at Cherry Hill, will be a significant tool for academic librarians in all types of colleges and universities. We are pleased to present the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy Sandbox to the academic community, and look forward to the effect it will have in advancing student learning through engagement with the Framework.?
The Sandbox Team urges practitioners on Information Literacy to start searching the site, which is available without a login, and to sign up for an account and start contributing. Welcome to the Sandbox! http://sandbox.acrl.org/
